Since I missed my spin class this morning, it was canceled due to weather, I warmed up with 20 minutes on the bike and then moved to the treadmill for a 4 mile run.
3.1 miles in 32:10 and the 4 mile time was 40:45. Not too bad for only my 3rd run this season. Goal is to get the entire run above 6.0 aka 10 minute miles.
Week 1 goals. 9.3 miles
Result: 10.2 and 20 minutes of bike.
Overall happy with the performance this week.

2nd Day..another 5k
Today's run was much better than Monday's for several reasons. To start, I was able to get my iPod squared away finally after my computer crashed and my HR was much more consistent. I wonder if that has more to do with my light lunch that my overall conditioning.
On the treadmill, I did 5k @ 5.6....5.8 and finally 6.0. As before the goal was to maintain my HR below 170 for fat burning and a baseline. The max HR was 166.
The goal time was to cut off 2 minutes off Monday's time of 35:05...I figured not walking would be a good way to do that. Success! Finish time was 32:42.
All things considered, left feeling very good about the workout.
Sunday's goal was going to be another 5k, but I'm thinking 4 miles could be more productive...I'm wondering if I could fit a spin class in there too.

First workout of the season
Jan 25th
The Marine Corps marathon seems to be light years away and yet it will be here before you know it.
Today was day 1 of training for this season.
Figured I would start with an easy 5k on the treadmill. Wanted to keep my heart rate at or below 170 to maximize fat burning. This ofcourse meant that I could only run around a 5.5 mph. Seems like the slowest I've run in a VERY long time. I actually did a run walk combo. Ran 1 mile, walked about a minute to get my heart rate down to around 133 bpm.
It took me 35:05 to run 3.1, that excludes the 5 minute warm up & cool down.
Day 2 will be on Thursday Jan 27th. Hoping to get to a spin class tonight as cardio and cross training.
